SUMMARY:Anticipating, Managing, and Responding to School Threats of Violence
DESCRIPTION:This school year brought an unprecedented number of threats, many of which were non-specific in nature.  Some of these incidents resulted in schools going into lockdown, restricting student and staff movement, and in some cases canceling classes or activities. These threats impacted learning and the perception of safety.  Threats are a tool for creating FEAR, and the best tool for combating fear is knowledge. \nThe workshop “Anticipating, Managing, and Responding to School Threats of Violence“ includes knowledge to help school staff make informed and reasonable decisions when confronted with a threat of violence.  The content is designed for school personnel when they must respond to specific or non-specific threats.  Responding to a threat requires a Communication Plan and advance information provided to parents.  This interactive training will provide attendees with:\n–  Latest research from the Department of Justice\n–  A Threat Advisory Classification System\n–  Response Strategies specific for each threat level\n–  Check Sheets for pre-event preparation, event action steps and post event tasks\nWho Should Attend:  School and District Administrators, Safety Directors, Risk Managers, Public Information Officers, and others involved in responding and managing threat events are encouraged to attend.   Schools are encouraged to send teams to this event.  \nAbout the Trainer:\nDennis Lewis is the President of Edu-Safe LLC, a school safety training and consulting organization founded in 1999. His primary focus is developing “Best Practice” strategies for enhancing student and staff safety. Dennis provides cutting edge training, safety and readiness assessments, and consults with attorneys as an expert defense witness on school safety litigation. He is a published author on a number of safety and security topics and is the Past President of the National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officers. From 1990 to 2006 Dennis was the Director of Public Safety for the largest school district in Missouri, overseeing 54 educational sites and 26,000 students.\nWhat Others Say:  A New Hampshire school principal recently wrote:\n “I wanted to thank you again for providing such a meaningful and practical training opportunity.
