SUMMARY:School House Bullies – Train the Trainer
DESCRIPTION:Missouri State University in collaboration with Edu-Safe USA has developed training to assist schools with better addressing the issue of bullying and harassment.\nWhat we know about bullying and harassment in schools:\n\nNegatively impacts learning and academic achievement\nCreates disruptions and leads to unnecessary discipline problems\nImpacts parents and the community’s view of school(s)\nIs one of the leading reasons schools are litigated\nOften originates in the home or workplace and is learned or imitated\nCauses some students to stay home or not come to school\nCyber-harassment is an issue for students, parents, and communities\n\nThis workshop is a train the trainer. The goal is to provide attendees with the tools to return to their schools and implement strategies to minimize the behavior through educating all stakeholders. In this workshop attendees will be provided with:\n\nCommunication strategies in working with parents\nInvestigation methods including check sheets to assist in being thorough\nNovel and productive strategies to engage students on the topic\nLitigation protection strategies to protect the school and staff – including on and off campus\nResponse strategies for when the behavior is observed based on general grade level\nStrategies for educating staff\nElectronic scenarios of bullying events to use with staff training\nHow to work with students and parents to reduce electronic bullying\n\nAbout the Instructor:\nDennis Lewis is the President of Edu-Safe LLC, a school safety training and consulting organization founded in 1999. His primary focus is developing “Best Practice” strategies for enhancing student and staff safety. Dennis provides cutting edge training, safety and readiness assessments, and consults with attorneys as an expert defense witness on school safety litigation. He is a published author on a number of safety and security topics and is the Past President of the National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officers. From 1990 to 2006 Dennis was the Director of Public Safety for the largest school district in Missouri, overseeing 54 educational sites and 26,000 students.\n
