How it Works

The hiring Process for MSU Graduate Assistants is straightforward, and we are happy to walk you through the process.

  • Selection and Hiring:
    • The business partner identifies a need for a graduate assistant and communicates the duties and desired qualifications to MSU. MSU advertises the position.
    • MSU will provide a list of qualified candidates for the partner to review. The partner may request additional information or conduct interviews with the candidates as needed.
    • The partner selects a candidate and communicates their selection to MSU.
  • Graduate Assistant Cost:
    • The graduate assistant contract covers a stipend and tuition and fees.
    • The external partner chooses one of two levels. Rates for 2023-24 are:
      • Level 1: $19,846 per academic year.
      • Level 2: $22,030 per academic year.
    • Additional costs (e.g., mileage, supplies) may be included in the contract if required for the position.
  • Payment:
    • MSU invoices the partner for the one-time fixed cost.
  • Onboarding:
    • MSU assists the partner in onboarding the GA and provides any necessary training to adhere to institutional policy.
  • Supervision:
    • The partner supervises and provides guidance to the GA throughout the duration of the assistantship.
  • Evaluation:
    • The partner evaluates the GA’s performance at the end of the assistantship and provides feedback to MSU.
  • Renewal:
    • The partner may choose to renew the GA’s assistantship for an additional academic year.
