Unleashing Creativity & Driving Success: The Brick City Design Studio

MSU A+D students provide no-cost design services to efactory members.

Dreaming big about how to best support entrepreneurs and build up talent in our region: it’s what we do. Now, we are thrilled to announce the official launch of the efactory pilot partnership with the Brick City Design Studio.

This is a vibrant, living partnership between Missouri State University’s renowned Art + Design Department and efactory. Operating right out of our bustling Brick City 3 space, this studio is a testament to what’s possible when education, innovation and community development come together.

For our efactory members, this is a gamechanger. Starting and scaling a business involves a thousand moving parts, and often, professional-grade design work can be a significant hurdle – both creatively and financially. Through Brick City Design Studio, we are connecting our startup companies directly with talented MSU Art + Design students, who are ready to roll up their sleeves and tackle meaningful projects. Think eye-catching logos, compelling marketing collateral and other crucial design products that will give these entrepreneurial ventures a professional edge.

Thanks to the funding from the Missouri Technology Corporation (MTC), we are able to provide these invaluable design services to our members at no cost, while compensating these student artists for their work. It’s another powerful way we’re dedicated to removing barriers and giving our businesses the best possible start and connecting MSU students with the local business community.

“The more exciting part for me is actually to see the work that I produce out in the ‘real world’ rather than just on the walls of Brick City.”

“No matter how well we prepare students for the workforce, there will always be a gap to overcome when working with actual clients,” James Mulvenon, instructor with the BCDS, explained. “Three out of four of last semester’s graduating seniors had careers lined up before graduation, thanks to their experience with the BCDS.”

This partnership is a win-win-win! Our members get access to high-quality design work that truly impacts their brand and market presence. MSU’s Art + Design students gain unparalleled, real-world experience working with live clients on impactful projects, building their portfolios and preparing them for successful careers. And for the region, it means we’re cultivating a richer pool of both innovative businesses and skilled creative talent.

The efactory pilot partnership with the Brick City Design Studio is a testament to our shared vision of advancing opportunities for everyone involved. We couldn’t be prouder of this collaboration and the incredible work that’s already beginning within those Brick City walls.
