Government Contracting: What You Need to Know

Government Contracting may be a critical tool for growing your small business and increasing your bottom line. Join us to hear from state and federal contracting experts. Participants will learn the potential benefits of participating in government contracting. Certification programs will be explained and highlighted. Don’t miss these informative presentations by the experts. Light refreshments will be provided.

Presentation 1 – State of Missouri Supplier Diversity Program
Diana Hilliard from the state of Missouri’s Office of Equal Opportunity will discuss efforts to promote opportunities for minorities and women to participate in state contracting. If you’re a small business owner who may qualify as a minority, or a woman, or a service-disabled veteran, this event will provide insights into the MBE, WBE and/or SDVE certification process. Explore the benefits of obtaining these certifications, understand the application procedure, and familiarize yourself with the required documentation.

Presentation 2 – Contracting Opportunities with MODOT
Kami Sanders with MODOT will discuss the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program, a federally mandated program administered by MoDOT’s External Civil Rights Division. The office is responsible for the certification of firms owned and operated by socially and economically disadvantage individuals. The overall intent of the program is to provide opportunities to participate in the economic benefits of highway construction to small businesses owned and operated by disadvantaged individuals.

Presentation 3 – Get Started with or Increase Federal Contracting Opportunities
The federal government purchases billions of dollars in products and services every year. Allen Waldo from the Missouri APEX Accelerators will give an overview of federal procurement and very basic information on how to begin selling to the federal government either as a prime or subcontractor. Igor Soares with the U.S. Small Business Administration will cover federal contracting opportunities.
