Meet Springfield’s News Startup: The Springfield Daily Citizen

We wanted to let you know about an up-and-coming organization we’re partnering with whose mission is close to our hearts. The Springfield Daily Citizen is our community’s brand-new news outlet—and it’s probably different from other media you’ve known. You see, like us, the Daily Citizen is a nonprofit. And it’s on a mission: To inform our community and be a catalyst for good.

The Daily Citizen was created by Springfieldians for Springfieldians. Its CEO, David Stoeffler, came home to Springfield from Wisconsin, where he lived for a few years after editing the News-Leader from 2010 to 2014. Every one of the Daily Citizen’s board and staff members is either from the Springfield area or has a connection to Springfield and Missouri. That’s a point of pride for David and his team.

As a nonprofit, the Daily Citizen answers to readers, not to shareholders. So, it’s able to make promises other media outlets can’t. The Daily Citizen pledges to:

  • Reinvent local news by telling the stories of our community;
  • Remain independent, impartial, fair, and unbiased in its reporting;
  • Inspire you to take action on the issues that are important to you; and
  • Help you connect to the community and enjoy the arts, culture, outdoors and other aspects of life here.

That’s an ambitious pledge – but we know this team, and we know they can pull it off!

We think the Daily Citizen is a solid investment for anyone – but you don’t have to make a financial commitment to read it right now. The full site is live! And, all content is free initially.

If you’d like to get to know this new face in the community, click here! And don’t forget to sign up for the Daily Citizen’s free newsletter, SGF A.M. – it’ll arrive in your inbox each morning with local news from our reporters.

Please check out the Springfield Daily Citizen. We think you’ll love it as much as we do.
