Springfield is the home to high-tech innovation through the Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC) at Missouri State University.
Thanks to its specialization in nanotechnology, materials and other advanced technologies, including semiconductor packaging and flexible electronics, JVIC was recently awarded $5.4 million from the Missouri Technology Corporation’s Advanced Manufacturing Resiliency Grant Program.
The funding will be invested into projects to support the manufacturing of semiconductors.
“The Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC) Advanced Manufacturing Node will advance Missouri-based projects and technologies to strengthen the semiconductor industry,” said Allen Kunkel, associate vice president for economic development and director of JVIC.
“We are grateful to receive the Advanced Manufacturing Resiliency grant to leverage the Missouri NextFlex Node at JVIC and support private sector projects that will strengthen the state’s manufacturing capabilities in semiconductor technologies.”
The grant program provides funding to Missouri organizations that create infrastructure for industries that are fundamental to the national security of the United States.
Award adds to economic development
JVIC is a collaborative partner with efactory since both share an emphasis on innovation and economic development.
“Projects like this advance the whole community and region,” said Rachel Anderson, executive director, efactory. “By pumping dollars into the advancement and manufacturing of technology, we train highly skilled workers, and we elevate the whole of southwest Missouri.
“This is a huge win for all of us, and we should be proud of the work that has been done and will continue to grow out of JVIC in the future.”
