Making an impact
What do you remember about the first job you ever had? No matter your experience, you probably walked away with skills that set you up for success in every job to come. It also might have reassured you about what you want in a career…or maybe what you don’t want.
Either way, each experience you gain in a new role teaches you critical skills, provides new connections and drives professional growth. You can also leave a lasting impact on your employers and the entire organization.
Rusty Worley, executive director of Downtown Springfield Association, emphasizes the impact of one of his interns.
“We’ve had a really good experience with Raegan, our student intern for events and space activation. We’re looking to work with her on a portfolio project this fall by having her coordinate the Holiday Market. We would like to expand our student intern presence for this coming academic year.”
We believe in fostering strong connections between Missouri State University students and the surrounding community. One of the ways we achieve this is through community employment like the one Rusty and Raegan found. These positions provide students with valuable opportunities to gain real-world experience while contributing their unique perspectives to local businesses and organizations.
Whether students are seeking part-time jobs or internships, our community job listings offer a diverse range of options. Students gain real-world experience, and in turn, employers gain unique perspectives and potential candidates for future employment.
Community employment is just one example of how we are working to bridge the gap between students and the community, creating a more vibrant and connected Springfield.
