The building at 405 N. Jefferson Ave. has a rich history of serving the community in various ways. In 1929, it was occupied by the Springfield Tablet Manufacturing Company.
This business quickly became a staple in the Springfield market, producing tens of millions of paper products every year through the following decades. Although the company eventually closed its doors, Springfield Tablet Manufacturing Company played a large role in the city’s rapid growth.
In 1978, the building was taken over by Hudson Foods Inc, a successful poultry processing company that employed over 300 Springfield citizens and expanded to other Midwest locations, including Stilwell, Oklahoma, and Joplin, Missouri.
The success of the Springfield plant proved to be a massive stepping stone for the company. Hudson Food Inc. grew to become one of the largest businesses in Springfield until its eventual decline at the end of the century.
In 2013, Missouri State University opened the doors to the efactory, a technology-focused business incubator and entrepreneurial development center. We are a one-stop-shop for entrepreneurs, offering everything from office space and accelerator programs to business consulting and workforce development.
