SBDC Day 2019: Cause for celebration

SBDC Day

For nearly 40 years the America’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network has helped small business owners achieve the American dream of entrepreneurship.

This year on March 20, 2019 SBDC offices from around the country are coming together for one special day to celebrate their work, impact and most importantly, their clients – America’s small businesses.

With nearly 1,000 locations across the country, SBDCs provide local businesses and entrepreneurs with the resources needed to succeed.

Your local SBDC

The Missouri Small Business Development Center at Missouri State University is a leading resource for growing and developing businesses. The program serves 16 counties throughout southwest Missouri, including a satellite center in West Plains, MO.

As part of the efactory, MSU’s SBDC is focused on helping business owners accelerate Missouri’s economy.  The program helps businesses grow through coaching, training, and technical assistance. Services include business planning, operational strategy, market research, financial projections, and more.

Last year, the SBDC at Missouri State University

  • Assisted more than 250 clients
  • Helped businesses retain over 575 jobs
  • Hosted nearly 100 training programs for over 1,400 attendees

In 2018, clients of the SBDC at Missouri State University:

  • Started 25 new businesses
  • Created over 200 new jobs
  • Obtained more than $11 million in capital investments

Across the nation

The SBDC at Missouri State isn’t alone. The 62 state and regional Small Business Development Center networks provide one-on-one consulting and training to small businesses at nearly 1,000 locations throughout the nation.

In 2017, America’s SBDC clients experienced annual sales growth of 18.1% – almost 4.5 times more than the national average.

SBDC assistance across the U.S. resulted in 93,471 jobs created; $7 billion in sales growth; $5.9 billion in capital investments; and 14,716 new businesses started.

A new look and name

Today the Small Business Development Center at Missouri State University is excited not only to celebrate SBDC day, but to also return to the nationwide SBDC name and brand.

Missouri’s network of business consultants earned a technology designation several years ago, leading them to be known as Missouri’s SBTDC network.

Today we know that every company and client served is a technology company – and there’s no need for the extra T.

So from here on out you can expect to see us referring to our business consulting, course leading, industry expert arm as the SBDC once again.
