Law Enforcement First Line Supervisor Leadership and Management – 10 IP, 15 LS, 15 TS (2 RP, 2 Implicit Bias, 5 De-Escalation)
Missouri State University in cooperation with Vista Law Enforcement Training and Consulting, LLC, has scheduled this 40-hour POST-approved training program, titled “Law Enforcement First Line Supervisor Leadership and Management.” This training program is presented by current and retired first responder supervisors/commanders who are experts in leadership, supervision, and management.
Topics include:
• Effective leadership for first-line supervisors
• Supervision (role and responsibilities)
• Management (planning, organizing, directing, and controlling)
• Practical exercises involving leadership/supervision-based scenarios
• Transitioning from line staff to a first-line supervisor
• Effective communication and motivation principles
• Developing a mission statement, values, and standards for a shift/squad
• Performance evaluations (documentation and coaching sessions)
• Managing critical incidents for first-line supervisors
• Missouri criminal and US Constitutional law updates
• Liability issues for first-line supervisors
• Managing complaints/Internal Affairs/Use of Force investigations and employee discipline
• Public speaking (with the public and media) and briefing skills with staff
• Practical exercises involving performance evaluations/conflict resolution/discipline
This program is designed to provide newly promoted supervisors or those seeking supervisory positions with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage a variety of first responders and/or civilian personnel.
